  • World Premier Screening of "Mid Suffolk Murders"

Following transition training workshops on "Making a Video", as part of its "Introduction to Personal Development", leading to an Open College Network certificate for successful clients, there will be a public "world premier screening" of the resulting short video on Dec.19th as part of an awards ceremony for all clients, at The Market Hall, Saxmundham.

  • Public Show of Hip Hop Theatre

PASTEL clients wanted a new challenge involving rap music and street dancing and, supported by suitable drama, dance and art tutors, they will be putting on a public show of their own devised Hip Hop Theare on Jun.6th at The Riverside Centre, Stratford St.Andrew.

  • PASTEL supports Big Lottery Fund - Sustainability Event

 

PASTEL will be supporting The Big Lottery Fund (East of England) ona a one day workshop to help enterprises, who are coming to the end of their Lottery funding, plan for their long-term funding future and the sustainability of their projects and organisation. The day will cover such topics as business planning for organisations, social enterprise in practice and commissioning and contracts.

Don Tricker, PASTEL CEO, will lead the workshop on "Becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC)."

The event will take place on April 2nd (9.30am- 3.30pm) in Cambridge.

 

  • PASTEL attends the University of Suffolk's Job Fair

 

Don Tricker, PASTEL's CEO, attending the University of Suffolk's Job Fair on April 22nd promoting social enterprise and PASTEL's training to support young adults with learning disabilities.

PASTEL was seeking student volunteers from several disciplines to join the PASTEL team covering business development to operations, as a recognised Open College Network training centre.

Two students expressed strong interest and discussions will follow...

  • Learning Disability College Roadshows

           PASTEL joins with local equality and advocacy groups to deliver talks in further education colleges -                 to  raise   awareness and understanding of learning disabilities.

  •  Mid-day Saturday, Dec.20th Having participated in a series of food hygiene and preparation workshops, clients went on to sit the national Level 1 Award in "Food Safety in Catering" - awarded by The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Seven passed first time and others have recently re-taken the exam.

     

    Fired up with enthusiasm our clients jumped at the opportunity to run their own restaurant and put their new found knowledge and skills into a live scenario!

     

    We'll therefore be running our first lunchtime restaurant - "Ristorante Pastella" - open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis (advance bookings only). Our team of clients will be preparing and serving a five-course meal for up to 50 covers. There is a suggested donation at the end of the event of £5 per customer, as a contribution to our costs.

     

    The restaurant will be set up in the Market Hall, High Street, Saxmundham.

    (in between The Bell Hotel and Crisps) and the doors will open up for customers at mid-day, with the first course being served from12.30pm.

     

    Water and squash will be available on the day, but adults are free to bring their own wine or beer, if they wish – corkage and glasses supplied.

     

    The day will be supported by trained and experienced tutors, all experienced caters. This challenge will help to consolidate PASTEL clients' learning of basic cooking skills, food preparation techniques, diet and nutrition, hygiene and safety, and wise food shopping - in an innovative and fun way! November 08

  •  Stakeholder Workshop ( 8/11/08). All interested local public, private and third sector individuals are invited to review PASTEL's achievments to date and plans for the future, and suggest and discuss further improvements, in an informal, interactive session. Parent/Carers are key to this meeting.This event is usually followed, on the day, by viewing some of the work of clients in practice. The main stakeholders, PASTEL clients, will be in a parallel workshop, but their inputs are usually quarterly through the PASTEL Client Panel. Outputs from the meetings are then  go into an action plan, which is reported back on as it is implemented.

  • Public performance of the new PASTEL Shadow Puppet Show in the Saxmundham Arts Festival (30/10/08). The group will devise an original story, create the characters, puppets and props and act in the final performance. The PASTEL clients will work together as a team, communicating their ideas and making all the key decisions. It is very much their own show to boost their self esteem and confidence. This public shpow also helps to educate the general public as to their true capabilities and potential.

  • Exhibit at the Saxmundham Charities Fair (19/4/08)

 

November 07

  •  Stakeholder Workshop held (24/11/07) with representatives from parent/carers, tutors and senior officers from Suffolk County Council. Although a great deal of formal feedback had already been gained earlier in the year through the PASTEL Client Panel and parent/carer surveys, this was an opportunity to meet in an informal setting and receive a summary of achievemnts through the year and plans for next year and to hold a group discussion. A few new queries and suggestions for further volunteer/mentor involvement were noted, to be followed up. After the discussion, attendees had the opportunity to observe the client workshop in action. The clients put on a drama/dance/mime performance with a basketball theme and age-appropriate rap music for backing. The audience reaction was extremely positive - "fantastic!" - and clients were glowing with the praise!
  •  PASTEL exhibited at, and participated in, the Suffolk Coastal Local Strategic Partnership forum  (2/11/07).

October 07

  •  Public performance of the PASTEL (Clients) Shadow Puppet Show - October (25/10). The PASTEL Puppet Show is an original youth production especially created for the Saxmundham Arts Festival. The show, aimed at a primary school age group, incorporates shadow puppetry, music, poetry and singing – with a little audience participation.For further information, contact tel: 604944
